Vincentia Sailing Club Weekly Report – Sunday, 12th January 2025
It was a sensational start to sailing in 2025 on the sparkling waters of Jervis Bay, as the intrepid members of the Vincentia Sailing Club returned for the first week back on the water. Trevor and Clyde were running the show onshore, whipping up the greatest lunch our members have seen all year—a feat not to be forgotten!
Out on the water, Andrew, with the help of Mr. Eastment, set a challenging short course right off the beach at Plantation Point. The race format featured three laps of a triangle-sausage-sausage track, capped off with a downwind finish. With eight Hobie 14s and four double-handed boats on the water, it was a buzzing start to the second half of the sailing season.
Paddy, fresh off his national title win in Victoria, was in full send mode on the Hobie 14, setting the pace for the fleet. Hatto was in fine form as well, with Jakey, Jeremy, and Spinelli rounding out the pack and battling fiercely in the strong nor’easter. Egbert and Helen were flying on the Nacra 5.8, while MB & Liana and Nigel & Joel went head-to-head on the Hobie 16s.
The standout story of the day was Clare and Kerry’s return to the racecourse. Having not raced in some time, the pair sailed with the boat speed and determination that have won them numerous accolades in the past. In the challenging conditions, their presence was a welcome sight and a reminder of their exceptional skill.
Stay tuned for next week, with a big southerly forecasted for the upcoming Double-Handed Championship. Jeremy and the Lords will take the reins on duty, promising another fantastic weekend on and off the water.
See you all on the bay!
