It was another sensational day at the Vincentia Sailing Club for the Double-Handed Championship. The fleet featured Egbert & Helen on the Nacra 5.8, Jake & Andrew on the Hobie 18, and an impressive lineup of Hobie 16s with MB & Liana, Nigel & Joel, Paddy & Court, and Marc & Rennie.

With Jeremy & Ollie running boat duty, a challenging two-lap windward-leeward course was set in a gusty southerly breeze. Residual ground swell added to the complexity, making for some tricky conditions on the racetrack.

Four races were held throughout the day, and credit to Jeremy & Ollie for starting promptly—though it meant a few latecomers missed the first race. MB and Liana sailed consistently, as did Egbert & Helen, although Egbert took an impromptu swim off the back of the boat. Paddy & Court also hit the drink at the top mark while chasing down Nigel & Joel, proving just how testing the conditions were.

The standout performers of the day were Marc & Rennie on the Hobie 16. Their boat speed was unmatched upwind, showing the fleet they’re a pair to watch. With a bit more time on the water and fewer swims, these two will undoubtedly become a formidable duo.

The Hobie 14s were also out in force, with Andrew McKenzie putting on a clinic around the course. Dobbo, Howard, and Adrian fought hard throughout the day, with Adrian ultimately emerging on top.

Back onshore, the day turned into a festive occasion as the club celebrated Rebecca Butler’s birthday. Clare and John Lord prepared a fabulous barbecue and salads, while Steph created a delicious birthday cake (though Elliot made sure to sample more than his fair share). Huge thanks to Elliot for stepping up as the club’s unofficial groundskeeper, watering the dry grass in front of the clubhouse—his new role has been sealed!

Stay tuned for next week’s long weekend festivities, with plenty of sailing set to take place on the sparkling waters of Jervis Bay. See you on the water!
