With light conditions forecast, discussions were had early about whether to run the Round the Bay Rally. In the end, it was agreed that keeping the racing closer to the club would be the better option. A standard Round the Pins course was set, with both the Hobie 16s and 14s starting together.

Race 1 began in a marginal 5-knot breeze, with Clare & Helen getting a great start, leading the fleet to the top mark. The pair held their lead all the way to the finish, claiming line honours, while Nigel, sailing Jake’s Hobie 14, was right on Clare’s rudders, pushing all the way to the line.

By Race 2, the wind had settled slightly, building to a more stable 8 knots at the start. Bryn Mills joined the fleet and wasted no time showing he still has the pace, leading the fleet around the course and claiming line honours in convincing fashion.

As the Sou’easter began to fade, Race 3 was shortened to a single loop, finishing on the beach. Nigel attempted a bold port start, but Kieran had other ideas—charging down the line and forcing Nigel to duck the entire fleet. Clare once again got away cleanly, holding her lead all the way to the beach, with Bryn close behind.

A huge thank you to Suzi for having the BBQ ready as the fleet hit the shore—nothing beats a good feed after a day on the water!
