The Vincentia Sailing Club kicked off the 2025/26 sailing season with the opening round of the Spring Championship, and what a way to start!

Fifteen boats lined up for Race 1 in a steady 9-knot nor’-nor’-wester, with a keen fleet jostling for position on the start line. The racing was tight from the outset, with plenty of action right across the course.

Andrew McKenzie and his son Will decided to mix things up, each jumping onto a Hobie Wave for the day. Their decision proved worthwhile as both were quick around the track, finishing in the front end of the fleet and showing the potential of the growing class.

Three races were completed before the fleet headed ashore for a fabulous lunch, prepared by the equally fabulous Jocelyn. Clearly it hit the spot, as about half the sailors stayed back on the beach for a relaxed chit-chat while six boats ventured out for a second session. Two more races were held in the afternoon, bringing the day’s tally to five.

Special mention must go to Fionnbarr and Joel, who completed every race of the day. They’re already showing they’ll be ones to watch as the new season unfolds.

With the Spring Championship now underway, the stage is set for another big year of sailing on Jervis Bay.
