VSC Spring Series – Round 1
With our first scheduled race day of the new Spring Series upon us, we had an impressive 15 boats on the start line. A nice west/nor’wester filled in throughout the morning, making for some lovely conditions to get out sailing.
As the first race was about to start, Howard decided to jump the gun and grab himself a few seconds’ head start! With a stiff breeze blowing, the fleet was recording some quick lap times, with Paddy on the Hobie 16 chasing down the Hobie 14s in no time.
The third race was cut short when duty officer Jake had to head over and assist Doug in righting his boat. With that, the fleet was sent back to the beach for a well-earned lunch. Poor Suzie wasn’t quite ready for the sudden influx of hungry sailors, but still managed to produce the goods and keep everyone well fed!
After lunch, the westerly was still blowing, so the decision was made to head back out for another round. Only four brave crews answered the call: Pat & River, Courtney, Dobbo and Andrew McKenzie.
With the fresh westerly continuing to show great form, Courtney decided to show off some skills of her own, going for a spectacular nosedive right in front of the duty boat!
Once everyone was back underway, there was enough time to squeeze in another two races. Pat & River were flying on the Hobie 16, chasing down the Hobie 14s and claiming line honours in both afternoon races.
A huge thank you to everyone who turned up and helped make the opening round of the Spring Series such a success. With 15 boats on the start line and plenty of action throughout the day, it was a great way to kick off another season of racing at the Vincentia Sailing Club.
