Another cracking weekend of sailing at the VSC, with sunshine, tight racing and plenty of breeze by Sunday.

Friday night WaveGP delivered the biggest program we’ve ever run — four races each for 13 athletes in a light-to-moderate nor’easter under blue skies. A huge contrast to the thunderstorms and glass-off that greeted the Moona Moona earlier in the day.

With only four boats per heat, the points were incredibly tight. Paddy, Steve and Adrian all finished on 37 points, with Paddy taking the win on countback. Steve edged Adrian for second after a win in the final race.

After four rounds, the overall leaderboard is heating up — Paddy and Andrew tied on 47 points, Matthew close behind on 44, MB on 38, and Adrian on 29. Game on.

Sunday sailing brought a “funky” forecast for Round 2 of the Single-Handed Club Championships. The day started manageable in a north-westerly, but slowly cranked until it was well and truly blowing dogs off chains.

Ten Hobie 14s took to the water, with Paddy and Andrew resuming their season-long duel, while Hazel and Fionnbarr were locked in their own close battle. Big respect to everyone who stuck it out as the breeze built.

Shoutouts to Kiaran and Rachael for tackling the Hobie 18, Dobbo, Jeremy, Adrian, Glenn and MB for braving the westerly on the 14s, and River and Evan for making the wise executive call on the Dragoon before things got wild.

This Friday we’re hosting a Women’s Try Sailing Day — come down, bring a friend, and enjoy Waves, sunshine and a BBQ courtesy of Matthew.
And don’t forget — Sunday 21st December is our VSC Christmas Party. Bottle decorating returns, but the big question remains: who’s making the gravy?
