It was an absolutely stunning Sunday summer day that greeted the VSC for the long weekend, with a strong turnout for a social sail around the bay. The fleet consisted of Kiaran’s new Hobie 18 (Kiaran & Syd), along with three Hobie 16s, Without Permission (Marc & Ed,) Cooky (Matt & Ollie) and Ciao Bella (Claire & Helen).
The 14’s were represented by the VSC Stalwarts, Dobbo, Adrian, Andrew Mac, Steve Andersen, Doug, Jez and Rennie.
The “Ratbags” on the Dragoon were living up to their moniker, darting around the fleet perfecting their trapeze skills and spinnaker use in preparation for the NSW State Championships in Wangi Wangi next month. The fleet hit the water and spread out to all corners of the Bay, the 16’s plotting their own course and racing each other. The 14’s headed to Callala for some surfing practice, and kids stayed in sight of the clubhouse and played between the Husky beach mark and Plantation Point.
Ollie fired up Ziggy and cooked a delicious meal for the crew when they returned to shore. After lunch the Ratbags and Without Permission, Syd on the Wave and Rennie headed back out for another swift crossing to Husky beach and back before the Dads called it for the day.
The kids went out again only to discover that a Southerly was now calling the shots and stopped them dead just off the beach. A tedious paddle back in and we were done for the day, finally…..
