The weekend brought another fantastic day of sailing at the Vincentia Sailing Club, though not quite as expected. While forecasts had promised a building nor’easter, sailors arrived to find a moderate south-easterly setting the tone for the morning.
Young gun Elliot wasted no time hitting the rigging area, inspiring his parents to get rigged so he could once again show the fleet how it’s done. Taking to the course with style, he left no doubt about his rising prowess on the water.
Dobbo & Jezz jumped aboard an H18 for the first time in years, much to the amusement (and perhaps concern) of Egbert, who was seen quaking in his Crocs. Steve Anderson, pulling off yet another roster for start boat duty, delivered a masterclass in race management, fitting in three races in shifting conditions before lunch.
Egbert claimed line honours in the second race of the day, but Marc had a stellar performance, finishing hot on the heels of Egbert and Howard to take second place. Nigel & Fionbarr, and Dobbo & Jezz battled it out in the big boat fleet, delivering thrilling competition.
In the Hobie 14s, Adrian, Doug, and Jake showcased some tight racing. Jake secured two first-place finishes, but Adrian edged him out in the third race. A special mention goes to Doug for staying upright and completing all three morning races—a milestone worth celebrating.
Angela’s delicious BBQ lunch refuelled the fleet, though the afternoon saw a smaller group return to the water as the breeze lightened. Jake was relegated to the helm of the H18 with Dobbo as crew, a reunion for the pair after an impressive 37-year gap. Despite the time apart, they proved they could still mix it with the best.
Steve squeezed in two solid afternoon races, with Egbert once again claiming line honours. Adrian, undeterred by being the only Hobie 14 sailor in the afternoon, tackled the lighter conditions with enthusiasm.
A big thanks to all who contributed, from Steve’s start boat expertise to Angela’s fantastic BBQ. Another memorable day at the VSC, with plenty of great stories to carry us into next weekend.
