Sunday was damp, a little chilly, and no one knew what the breeze was actually doing – but the VSC remained undaunted! The sails were pulled up just as the rainfront came over, so we huddled in the club with a cuppa. The rain passed, the breeze arrived, and we were on!

A Single-Handed Championship weekend meant it was tight racing in the 14s. In the two races before lunch, Jeremy and Adrian took a first each, with Fionnbarr, Bridget, Kiaran, and Howard hot on their heels. In the 16s, MB & Mel went up against Matt & Ollie and James & Elliot, while Egbert & Helen ran rings on the Nacra 5.8. (Grom report below!)

Lunch was warm and very well-received, and we fed plenty of extended VSC family as well—cheers to Trevor & Clyde for some very delicious salads.

After lunch, Scott and Jake went back out to kick off our two afternoon races. Unfortunately, some boats retired over lunch, but it meant that it was proper match racing between Adrian, Bridget, and Fionnbarr, with Adrian and Bridget taking out a win each on yardstick. MB & Mel went to the rescue of Joel & River’s upside-down Dragoon, while Egbert & Helen stayed two on the wire.

Grom Report (Rennie)

Finbarr sailed his 14 and powered up, dusting off the 6-batten main. River and Lilliana teamed up in Joel’s absence on the dragoon to complete the first 2 races before Lunch, Joel was a late starter on the Wave and completed the 2nd race before lunch.

Dan with Banjo and Wren played on the Wave in front of the club, and stalwarts Elliot and James also had a quick run on the 16 before the breeze kicked it up a notch. After lunch Lilliana decided to have a break on the beach- so Joel and River teamed up and had a great race before taking a dip whilst trying to fly the dragoon on one hill. Thanks to Steve and Chris Andersson for your help in righting it. All up a great day was had by all.

We’ll see you next week for another edition of the Spring Handicap! The Jervis Bay Butcher himself, Steve Clarke, will be on the tools cooking up a storm, whilst Jamie & Violet will be hitting the water on race duty in what is forecasted to be a sensational nor’easter.
