Spring Handicap: Week 1
It’s the first weekend of spring. The sun is shining. These breeze is hardly blowing. But, it’s Father’s Day!
The VSC could not of had a better start to the sailing season, with a picturesque day on the waters of Jervis Bay. Filling in later than expected, a shifty, easterly breeze blew in around 1100hrs, allowing John, Bryn & Bridget to put away four races for the start of the Spring Handicap.
A total of 13 boats hit the moona moona for the day. Three Hobie 16s, inclusive of Clare & Helen, Mick & Bonnie, and Jimmy & Jess, who was racing on the Hobie 16 for her very first time, were going toe to toe all day. Clare & Helen were proving why their 22-23 club champions. Bonnie made her grandiose return on the helm, and Jimmy he is still one of the VSC’s greatest imports.
Six Hobie 14s were racing on John’s race track. Paddy came home with picket fence after a month up racing in the Whitsundays, whilst Andrew and Adrian were keeping the World Champ honest. Dobbo was up to his usual antics on the start line, Gilby was flying in the light air, and Steve was nailing the cleanest tacks of his career.
Closer to shore, Spinelli had Oliver & Ava running amok on the Wave and Dragoon, as were Evan & Joel who were leaving Rennie behind to fend for himself. Meanwhile, Troy was enjoying the first day of the season taking out his new (Adrian’s old boat) Hobie 14 out for her inaugural sail on Jervis Bay. We are beyond excited to see him out on the race course soon.
Lastly, thank you to Rebecca for her fabulous work on the BBQ, and all the families who brought along a salad for the greatest Father’s Day lunch the VSC has seen!
Tune in next week as for the first Double-Handed Championship of the year, as John & Gilby take on race duties, and Lisa steps in on the BBQ.
